N.C. Home Construction Up 48%

The number of housing permits issued in North Carolina in 2012 jumped by 48%, according to a report from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (the FDIC). Housing permits have historically been an indicator of pending residential construction, and a measure of health in the residential real estate market. The number of single- and multi-family units grew from 32,400 in 2011 to 47,828 in 2012, the majority of which are single-family homes. The FDIC also reported that in 2012 total home mortgage delinquencies fell to 8% of total loans, down from 8.5% the prior year. Visit the Triangle Business Journal to read the full story.
