Durham is getting the area’s first Smashburger. The Denver-based burger chain will open early next year in Pavilion East at Lakeview on Erwin Road, across from Duke University’s campus in Durham. Smashburger has more than 220 locations in 29 states, but so far there is only one other location in North Carolina, and that one is in Charlotte. Smashburger’s big draw is its Angus beef burgers that are “smashed to order”, and a mouth-watering range of Häagen-Dazs milk shakes .
