Triangle Outpacing Other Areas In GDP

The Triangle is outpacing much of the rest of the state in GDP, including Charlotte and the Triad, according to newly released numbers from the U.S. Commerce Department on Friday. Gross domestic product in the seven-county region making up the Triangle grew by 2.6% to $98.3 billion in 2011. While the numbers do reflect a slow-down in the economic recovery from 2010-2011, it also shows that metropolitan areas, particularly areas with large technology sectors, are rapidly outgrowing rural areas.
