Raleigh has gained quite a reputation lately as home to a number of different up-and-coming breweries. Craft beer culture has taken the city by storm, and there are now a number of quality craft beer breweries just around the corner in much of the area. The abundance of local bars and bottle shops aside, there are about 17 local brewing companies that have been growing and opening in just the past 9 years.

These breweries are known for their beer, but many of them have other offerings as well. Trophy, for instance, located in downtown Raleigh and one of the local favorites, has an excellent selection of yummy gourmet pizzas to choose from. Crank Arm, also located in downtown, sits near Videri Chocolate Factory, which provides much of the chocolate used for local stouts and has an abundance of locally-made chocolate to nibble on. Many of the breweries in the area have regular tours available to the public and sell their beer in-house in pint, half-pint, and tasting flight options, as well as bottled.

If you’re looking to try a bunch of breweries, Raleigh Brews Cruise provides mobile tours of Raleigh’s brewing scene. You can also go the self-guided route; Visit Raleigh, N.C. provides a “Beer Trail” for you to follow. If you get their passport stamped at each location you go to, you can even win prizes such as a bottle opener, beer koozie, and a t-shirt.
