HPW Happenings | Pet Adoption Event in Hillsborough on June 10

Our Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston Hillsborough real estate office is hosting a pet adoption event on Saturday to help a few furry friends find their “fur-ever” homes.

In partnership with Singing Dog Farm and Spirit Canine Rescue, there will be dogs of all ages, shapes, and sizes for you to meet and adopt. Three small kittens rescued by one of our Raleigh real estate agents will also be available for you to adopt and call your own.

Already have the perfect pet? You can still stop by! Our real estate team will be collecting pet supply donations including food, collars, pet beds and more to support our partner organizations. With a $15 donation, you can get a professional photo taken of you and your fur-baby too!

Preparing Your Home for a New Pet

Could this be the weekend you bring home a new pet? Inviting a furry friend into your family is always exciting, but it is also something for which you should prepare.

You’ll want to be sure that your home is “pet-proofed” before their paws hit the floor.

Pet-proofing your home
Many dogs, especially puppies, like to chew on things they find around the house. Make sure to put away shoes, hide electrical cords and pick up your kids’ toys to keep your new dog from getting them.

Consider getting a lidded trash can that isn’t easy to knock over.

Check out your indoor plants. Are they pet safe? If not, you may want to remove them completely or place them well out of reach (remember, cats climb and jump).

Pet-proofing your yard
Do you have a fenced-in yard? Take a stroll around your grounds to ensure you don’t see any holes or gaps that could become a future escape route.

Take a look at the plants in your garden. There are many common flowers—daffodils, ivy, lilies, etc.—that are unsafe for our pets. If you have these plants in your yard and your pet will have access to them, you may want to relocate them to a new flowerbed.
